Acadia Trust, N.A. is the trust and investment subsidiary
of Camden National Corporation, a financial services holding
company headquartered in Camden, Maine. Camden National Corporation
subsidiaries include Acadia Trust and Camden National Bank,
a community bank since 1875.
The Portland, Maine office of Acadia Trust originated in
1984 with the founding of Gouws Capital Management, Inc.
as an independent, SEC-registered investment advisor.
To broaden the capacity to serve clients, Acadia Trust
was chartered in 1992 as an affiliated, non-depository
trust company. It is a national bank that is regulated by the
Comptroller of the Currency, a department of the U.S.
Treasury.
Our Bangor, Maine office was originally established as Fiduciary
Services, Inc. in 1993 to provide comprehensive
retirement plan administration services. To broaden its range of
capabilities by acquiring the ability to serve as trustee
and custodian, Trust Company of Maine was chartered in 1994 as a non-depository
trust company, and it subsequently absorbed the business
of Fiduciary Services, Inc.
In 2001, the aforementioned entities were acquired by Camden National Corporation,
and combined under the Acadia Trust banner, serving clients from offices in Portland and Bangor.
In January of 2008, Union Bankshares Company was acquired
by Camden National Corporation. As a result, the trust
department of Union Trust became a part of Acadia Trust,
which now serves clients from three locations: Portland, Bangor and Ellsworth.
